Intervention

It’s an increasingly common question, and although many of those concerns are false alarms, they are always crucial to follow up. Too many people assume the opposite and allow the exploitation of young ones to continue.

There are often things you can do before calling law enforcement, including gathering the information they would require to take any action. You can do simple things to establish if there is abuse going on, as well as to prepare for a possible intervention. There can be ways to take things into your own hands in certain situations.

It can be a delicate matter for all involved. Please contact these leaders for wisdom.

BRINGing WOMEN HOME FROM CAPTIVITY IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Serving Sierra Leone, Africa

Since 2019, Sierra Cares Foundation has repatriated nearly 2,200 women that had been duped with the promise of great jobs. Predators go to small, isolated villages to prey on the poor and uninformed.

This program's long term success component has been safe housing for these women to reintegrate back into their society. It also includes partnering with community groups to prepare them for employment in something they desire as well as educating other families about the dangers of sending their women and children to other countries to "work."

Recognizing Signs of Trafficking

NOTE: This agency lacks lived-experience professionals. It's here as it is the most comprehensive option.

It's unlikely there will ever be anything obvious to alert you that a stranger is being trafficked. That may come as a surprise – especially if you have been to a training where you learned about indicators of trafficking, such as a kid looking disheveled or scared.

The best way to help is to pay attention to people you know or interact with – your students, your tenants, your children, your patients, your co-workers. It comes down to two words: context and proximity
